Dave’s Bass #2
This was built in the early '90s, also for Dave Lambard, in a style similar to Dave's Bass #1, but with refinements in layout and hardware. Solid teak, with an ebony fingerboard, it was accented by a hand-cast silver dragon (created by a two-step casting process from a piece of antique jewelry) on the back. It again featured a Bartolini triple-coil pickup, for versatility of tone in a single pickup, very cleanly mounted by the three screws in the back. The output jack was also located on the back, as that was the only place large enough. This location of the jack also allowed for a very clean arrangement of electronics.
The volume control utilizes a standard knob, rather than the more complex slider control on Dave's first bass, or the external controls used on Dave's fretless guitar, but the knob is mounted in a Telecaster output jack, to decrease the likelihood of accidental 'adjustments' while the instrument is being played. By this point in time, the necessary bridge, tuning machine and locking nut arrangement, manufactured by ABM (a German company), was widely available through parts distributors in the United States.
